REVOLUTION TOURNAMENT GREAT SUCCESS
By Luke Robbins
THE latest Revolution Tournament was a
great success despite
threats of cancellation because of the sonwy conditions.
The event was held at Balby Carr Sports
Centre, Weston Road,
Balby, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, on Sunday, March 24th.
This was the 8th year the tournament has
been running.
Organiser Any Crittenden said: "Well the
event was very
well attended, it was worrying times as we were nearly cancelled off
because of
the snow and some clubs couldn't get because of the snow in their part
of the
country but it was still jam packed and a great day.
"The standards get higher and higher every
competition
with some amazing competitors. We had World Champions and first timers
all there
giving 100% and making their Schools & Instructors proud.
"All the referees, forms judges, assistant
referees,
scorekeeper, timekeepers, registration staff, weigh-in staff and
general
assistants...we were truly blessed to have such a great team. Thank you
everyone."
This Tournament is one of the two
qualifiers for the Fight
Night in September (Points and Continuous) and also the winners of the
Swords
and Forms categories qualify as "Seeds" for the English Championships
on the 13th of October.
The other qualifier is the South of England
Championships in
Basingstoke in May.
Andy added: "All winners of the categories
get the
automatic Fight Night and forms and swords spot.
"Some categories had one entrant and that
person got the
fight night spot but they all fought in the category above to earn
their
spot.
"Anyone is welcome to fight for their Fight
Night spot
or their forms and swords seed at Basingstoke but please note for Fight
Night
there is no fights where its two people from the same club
fighting.
"So if someone from your club is in Fight
Night for your
division they have that spot. Forms and swords it’s not a problem
as it's a
tournament environment not a one on one fight."

AID COURSE FOR MARTIAL ARTISTS
By
Luke Robbins
A
FIRST aid course for martial artists is being held by Martial News'
parent company.
The At Work HSE registered cour is being held
at St Joseph's Community Centre, Shibdon Road, Blaydon-on-Tyne.
It will start at 10am on Saturday, April 6th.
Phil Doherty, group Editor Martial News, said: "The course is being run
by our parent company DFM Self-protection Ltd and is a Health and
Safety Executive recognised course.
"This means if you run a full-time gym or are a professional martial
arts instructor you are legally covered when it comes to first aid.
"However, this course is open to anyone who wants a first aid
certificate whether they are a beginner or an experienced coach.
"The beauty of this course is that you can use it for ANY employment,
for volunteary groups or just as a vital skill. And you can do first
aid cover at events!
"And DFM self-protection have created this course so its is affordable
for anyone. For example, other first aid providers will charge around
£250 per participant for such a course, but the DFM course is an
incredible £35."
Anyone wanting to join the course should email

BAMMA
REVEALS ITS COMING TO NEWCASTLE
By Sean
O'Connor
BAMMA
is coming to Newcastle it has been announced.
One
of the UK's premier MMA shows, Bamma 12 will hit the Metro Radio Arena
on March 9th.
BAMMA's
director, David Green, said: "Newcastle
is a renowned hotspot for British fighting talent and in many ways a
spiritual
home to BAMMA: An array of BAMMA fighters have hailed from the region
and
Newcastle is home to our equipment partner Lonsdale and also to one of
our
official ring girls, Georgia Graham.
"There's a strong MMA fan base up there and
Newcastle is an energetic city that loves to party; it's where the Fans
have
been calling for us to go for a while, so it is definitely the natural
place
for BAMMA 12 and the atmosphere is going to be immense."
The fight card has not been released yet.
