MARTIAL ARTS TOUGH GUYS HELPING BOY WALK By Phil Doherty WHEN Cain Burns was born the doctors told his
parents he would never walk because he had cerebral palsy. He has never known the exhilaration of playing
football with his friends, never experienced the joy just running
around
playing catch-me games, or even ridden a pushbike. But that could all change for the seven-year-old
from North Shields thanks to the soft hearts of some of the toughest
people in
the region. After hearing of a live changing operation that
could help Cain not only walk but run, the North East fight scene has
joined
forces in a bid to raise the necessary £55,000 to send him to the
United
States. Cain’s dad Chris said: "It's amazing but
they
managed to raise around £20,000 so far across the fight world to
help send Cain
for the operation. "Not only that, but their generosity has also
seen him 'adopted' by some of the biggest names in the fight and
fitness scene. "Cain was born with cerebral palsy and has
never had the chance to walk. He is now seven-years-old and has never
done the
things that other children just take for granted. We want our son to
have the
best life possible so he can enjoy life to the full." With Chris, of Whitehouse Lane, North Shields,
training in martial arts the word quickly spread across the North East
fight
scene about the remarkable campaign to raise enough money to pay for
the
operation in the USA. Big fight shows such as Sunderland based
Made-4-The-Cage, North Tyneside’s Fight Fest, and Pride &
Glory all sprang
into action to raise cash for the appeal. They have been joined by UFC
fighters
Andy Ogle, Colin “The Freakshow” Fletcher and Philip de
Fries. They were was joined by other cage fighting
events such as Bad Intentions and Inferno Fighting Championships,
Ashington, as
well as submission wrestling event Sub 7 and Alex Enlund’s Sixth
Sense MMA gym
as well as Jordan’s Snooker Hall, Heworth, and boxing and fitness
gym Vision owner
Mark Clauzel. Chris said: "Mark Clauzel, for example, is
paying out of his own pocket for two sessions per month for Cain to go
to physiotherapy
to strengthen his legs to ready him for the operation. Because he has
never
walked his legs are very weak but need to be strengthened so after the
operation he can begin the physio to help him walk again. "The children who have this operation can lead
a full active life and in most cases can walk almost normally. This
will give
him a new lease of life and all Cain ever talks about are the martial
arts. He
adores Colin 'The Freakshow' Fletcher and thinks the sun shines out of
fighters
such as Andy Ogle and Philip de Fries. "My cousin Darren Wardle he introduced us to Alex Enlund and it just spread out rapidly from there until the appeal was being picked up by all the big shows and fighters big and small." +++MARCH
