MARFEST GETS READY TO RUMBLE IN AID OF CANCER RESEARCH UK

THE organisers of the Marfest are calling for clubs to help raise as much cash as possible for Cancer Research UK.

The event will be held at Sunderland University on Saturday, June 24th.

Hundreds of martial artists from across the UK are expected to flock to the event for a day of demonstrations and friendship.

Now the organisers are calling for clubs to help make this, the 12th annual event, a bigger and better event than previous years.

Organiser Peter Seth said: "We are keeping the same format as last year as it really worked quite well.

"There will be a main mat for the demonstrations and four come and try mats where people can come and try the different arts taking part in the show...

OVEREEM SAYS MEDICATION IS TO BLAME FOR FAILED DRUG TEST

TROUBLED UFC fighter Alistair Overeem has said in a statement that his failed drug test was down to prescribed medication.

The statement was released by his management team, Authentic Sports Management, following reports that UFC president Dana White was "pissed" at Overeem.

Nevada State Athletic Commission did the drug test at a press conference highlighting Overeem's planned fight on UFC 146 main card against Junior Dos Santos.

AN INTERVIEW WITH MARTIAL ARTS LEGEND BRIAN DOSSETT

MARTIAL News Editor Phil Doherty talks to the legendary martial arts master Soke Brian Dossett.
Brian is one of the most widely known instructors in the UK and regularly featured in magazines such as Martial Arts Illustrated, Fighters and Combat among many many others.
He is no stranger to controversy having spent his life challenging traditional assumptions and beliefs.
Having ruffled the traditional feathers and in the face of critiscism he answered: 'put up or shut up'.

PD: How long have you been training in martial arts? Who did you start training with and where was this? What system was your first martial art?
BD: I started boxing at the Isleworth Boxing cub back in the late 40's aged nine-years-old and then Judo when I was 12 years old.
